James Connect - Full explanation

The financial profile that
walks in the room with you.

Right now, getting a mortgage or car finance means filling in the same forms you have filled in a hundred times before. Connect ends that. Your James profile is already verified. You just tap, and it is there.

The problem

The financial system wastes everyone's time.

Every time someone walks into a mortgage broker or car dealership, both sides go through the same exhausting process. The customer fills in a long form - name, address, income, employment, outgoings, savings - all from memory, all unverified. The broker manually checks what they can, requests payslips and bank statements, and waits days for documents to arrive. Then they run the affordability numbers themselves.

This process exists because there has never been a trusted, real-time way to share verified financial data between a customer and a professional. James fixes that. Connect is the bridge.

Why Connect works

The data is already there.
Connect just delivers it.

Connect is not a standalone product. It works because of everything James has already built. By the time a customer taps the reader, their profile has been quietly and accurately building for months through normal day-to-day use of the James app.

Open banking verified income
James connects to your bank via TrueLayer open banking. Income is confirmed from real transaction data, not a number typed into a form. Brokers can trust it immediately.
Spending tracked automatically
Every outgoing is categorised and averaged over three months. No guessing, no rounding up. The broker sees exactly what a customer actually spends, not what they think they spend.
Real-time credit score
Score Report keeps the customer's credit health up to date. When they tap, the broker sees a current score - not a three-month-old figure pulled from a one-off check.
Savings and assets confirmed
Deposit and savings balances are pulled directly from connected accounts. The broker knows exactly what the customer can put down before the conversation even starts.
Products matched automatically
The dashboard does not just show numbers - it shows which products the customer qualifies for, ranked by fit. No searching, no manual cross-referencing with lender criteria.
Customer-controlled consent
Nothing is shared without a physical tap. The customer chooses exactly which data points are included. Consent is given at the moment of the tap, not buried in a terms page signed months ago.

For customers

From app to appointment
in six steps.

Here is exactly what happens from the moment you start using James to the moment you walk out of a broker with a decision.

Your journey
1
Download James and connect your bank
You download the James app and connect your bank account via open banking. This takes about two minutes. James can now see your real transactions - income coming in, and everything going out.
Why this matters: This single step replaces bank statements, payslips, and manual income declarations. The data is live and it is verified by your bank, not by you typing a number into a form.
2
Your profile builds automatically
Over the following weeks, James tracks your spending, categorises your outgoings, and calculates your real monthly affordability. You do not need to do anything. The longer you use it, the more accurate your profile becomes.
Why this matters: A three-month average of actual spending is far more accurate than what anyone writes on a mortgage application. It reflects reality, not an optimistic guess.
3
Check Score Report
Score Report shows your credit score and flags anything that could affect a lending decision. If something needs fixing before your appointment, you can see it and deal with it in advance.
Why this matters: Turning up to a broker appointment with a credit problem you did not know about is one of the most common reasons people leave without a decision. Score Report eliminates that surprise.
4
Walk into your appointment
You book your broker appointment as normal. You do not need to bring payslips, bank statements, or fill in any pre-appointment forms. Your profile is already complete.
5
Tap the Connect reader
The broker has a Connect reader on their desk - roughly the size of a card payment terminal. You tap your phone against it. In three seconds, your complete profile appears on their screen.
What gets shared: Verified income, three-month average outgoings, credit score, savings and deposit balance, employment status, existing debt. Only what you have chosen to include in your profile. You can adjust this in the James app at any time before your appointment.
6
Get a decision, not a delay
The broker has everything they need on screen. No chasing documents. No follow-up calls asking for a payslip. The conversation can move straight to which products suit you and what the next steps are.
What changes for you: Appointments that used to take over an hour just to gather information can now focus entirely on advice and decision-making. You leave knowing where you stand.

For brokers and dealerships

Every customer walks in
already qualified.

Connect does not change how brokers work. It removes the part of the job that has always been the most time-consuming and the least valuable - manually collecting and verifying basic financial information.

Broker experience
1
Connect reader sits on your desk
You receive a Connect reader - a small NFC device, about the size of a card payment terminal. It connects to your Wi-Fi and links to your Connect dashboard. No software to install, no IT involvement required.
Hardware: Readers are provided free on a 12-month contract. There is no setup fee and no minimum volume commitment.
2
Customer taps, profile appears instantly
When a customer taps the reader, their complete verified financial profile appears on your dashboard in three seconds. You do not need to ask for a single document. Income, outgoings, credit score, savings, employment - all confirmed, all on screen.
The data is verified, not self-declared: Income comes from open banking. Credit score comes from Score Report. Savings come from connected accounts. You are looking at facts, not a form.
3
Products are matched automatically
The dashboard does not just show the customer's data - it shows which products they qualify for, ranked by match percentage, with the associated commission for each. You can see immediately which deals are worth pursuing and which are not a fit.
4
Spend the appointment on advice
Because the qualification stage is instant, your entire appointment time is freed up for what you are actually paid for - advising the customer on their best options and getting the deal done.
The time saving: Brokers currently spend an average of 45 minutes per new customer just gathering basic information. Connect reduces that to under one minute. Across a full week of appointments, that is hours returned.
5
Track completions and commission pipeline
Your dashboard keeps a full history of every tap, every matched product, and every completion. You can see your commission pipeline in real time and track which product types are converting best across your customer base.

Why now

The technology to do this has existed for years. Nobody joined it up.

Open banking has been available in the UK since 2018 under PSD2. NFC payments have been mainstream since 2014. Credit data has been available via bureau APIs for years. The reason Connect has not existed until now is not a technology gap - it is an integration gap.

No single product has ever built the verified financial profile, the credit health tool, the comparison platform, and the physical point-of-sale interface, and connected them together. James does all four. Connect is the output of that - the moment where everything a customer has built in the app becomes instantly useful to the professional sitting across the desk.

The UK mortgage market processes around 1.5 million new loans every year. The car finance market handles over 2 million agreements. Every single one of those starts with someone manually collecting information that is already sitting in a bank account. Connect changes that.

Privacy and security

Your data. Your tap. Your choice.

Connect is built around the principle that your financial data belongs to you. Here are the most common questions about how it is handled.

Who can see my profile data?
Only the broker at the specific Connect terminal you tap. Your profile is not visible to any other broker, any other business, or anyone else. The share is point-to-point - from your phone to that specific reader and the dashboard linked to it. James does not sell or share your data with any third party.
What if I change my mind after tapping?
You can revoke a broker's access to your profile at any time from the James app. Once revoked, the broker can no longer view your data. If you have already had your appointment and the broker has what they need, this does not affect any application already in progress - but it stops any further access.
Can I choose what data is shared?
Yes. Before your appointment, you can open the James app and choose exactly which data points are included in your Connect profile. You might include income and credit score but exclude your full spending breakdown, for example. The broker only sees what you have chosen to share. These settings are saved per-profile, not per-tap, so you can set them once and adjust as needed.
Does tapping affect my credit score?
No. Sharing your profile via Connect does not trigger a hard credit search. The credit score shown to the broker comes from Score Report, which uses a soft search. Only when a broker proceeds to a formal product application does a hard search occur, and that happens through the normal lender process, not through James.
Is my data stored on the reader or the broker's device?
No. The Connect reader does not store any financial data. When you tap, the reader sends a secure identifier to James's servers, which then deliver your profile directly to the broker's dashboard over an encrypted connection. Nothing is stored on the reader hardware, and nothing is stored locally on the broker's device. All data is held in James's secure infrastructure and is only accessible to the broker while you have active access granted.

James Connect is in development. All data shown on this page and in the dashboard preview is example data only. Connect will launch to waitlist members first. James is a trading name of JEMA Software Ltd, registered in England and Wales.
